If you're like me, your desk is covered in stacks of papers. Bills, grocery lists, receipts, notes to self, pictures cut from magazines—you name it. And now that it's a new year, I'm motivated to get this hodgepodge of clippings under control. Luckily, design blogger Bloom in the Black posted an entry on her page about how she freed herself of clutter by setting up this simple yet extremely clever paper-organization system. Enter the clipboard wall!
It's essentially what it sounds like: a wall of clipboards. Instead of letting papers pile up, where they can easily be misplaced, categorize your papers, attach them to a clipboard, and nail those babies straight into the wall. It sounds silly, but once they're all hung up, it makes a pretty neat graphic display.
Bloom in the Black offers directions in her post to make your own wall. Do consider a few things before starting though, such as how many clipboards you want. You may want a clipboard for bills, another one for grocery lists, or family photos, etc. Then you must plan out your grid. Think 3 x 3, or 4 X 2, or maybe spice it up by staggering your clipboards across the wall at different heights—it really depends on how much space you have available. Feel free to add a few empty clipboards to the wall as the need to clip papers may fluctuate throughout the year, or if your grid is uneven.
The goal of the wall is essentially to keep everything together in one place, but also, it allows you to easily grab a pile when you're ready to complete a task, like paying your bills. "If I’m working on a blog or a meal plan, I’ll grab a board and bring it with me to work on while watching TV with the family or making dinner," Brianna Thomas, the woman behind Bloom in the Black, tells TODAY.
But if you've already got a pretty stable way of keeping your papers in order, a clipboard wall is also just an eye-catching visual. In fact, folks on Instagram are creating their own clipboard walls not just for organization, but also as a method of displaying art. Take a look!
